What actually moves the price

Region

London and the South East tend to run 15–25% above the UK average, largely due to higher landfill and transport costs. Prices in the North and parts of Wales are often noticeably lower for the same size skip.

Waste type

General mixed waste is priced one way; heavier material like soil, rubble, bricks and tiles is usually priced separately since it's charged more by weight than volume. A dedicated "heavy waste" or "muck away" skip is often cheaper than a general skip of the same size if that's mostly what you're disposing of.

Permits

If the skip sits on a public road, add the council permit fee on top of the skip price — this ranges from roughly £20 to £40 a week depending on the council, on top of what the skip company charges you.

Hire duration

Most quotes are for a standard 1–2 week hire. Keeping a skip longer usually costs extra per day or week — ask upfront rather than assuming it's included.

Hidden extras to watch for

Overfilling charges (if waste sits above the skip's sides), charges for prohibited items found during collection, and re-delivery fees if the skip can't be collected on the scheduled day due to blocked access.
